Welcome to Year 5

Here you will find some useful information about Year 5 and links to our planning. Over the academic year, we will also be updating the term links below to share with you some of our class work.
For Year 5, the school day starts at 8.55 (doors open at 8.50) School finish: 3.20pm.
Seesaw
Go to Seesaw
At St. George’s, we make regular use of a platform called Seesaw (http://seesaw.me).
It is a secure online journal where students can document and reflect on what they are learning in class. Pupils are able to add the things we work on (including photos, videos, worksheets, drawings and voice recordings) to their Seesaw journal. We also set the weekly spellings, and sometimes other tasks, for pupils to complete at home.
Should there be a period of school closure, we are also able to use this platform to record and deliver lessons.
Useful Information for Parents
Physical Education: PE for Haughmond and Stiperstones takes place on a Monday and Tuesday. For Wrekin, PE lessons are on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Kit must be worn to school on these days. We go outside as much as we can, so please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. During the summer term on a weekly basis, we will go swimming – pupils are to arrive to school with swim wear underneath their PE kit.
Key Dates:
Homework
Year 5 are expected to practise times tables, read daily/frequently over the week, and practise weekly spellings.
Times Tables: The children are tested weekly through Frog Club and have access to Sumdog at home and at school to practice their times tables.
Spellings: Weekly homework is set and tested every Wednesday. Their spelling lists will be sent home weekly and are expected to return these once completed. Spelling lists are also uploaded onto Seesaw each week.
Reading: A record of their daily/weekly reading can be written in their reading record or can be recorded on Seesaw in their ‘Reading Journal’. We encourage children to record an explanation (verbal or written) of what they have read using their reciprocal reading skills to support their evaluations of the chapter.
