At. St. George’s Junior School, our community is very important to us and we pride ourselves on the close links we have developed with our local community.
We are situated next to our main feeder infant school, Woodfield Infant School, who are also part of Empower Trust. We have a close relationship, where activities and events are often planned across the two sites and pupils have regular opportunities to work together.
We have an active PPTA, who organise a range of events both within school and which can be attended by the local community, including our popular Christmas and summer fairs.
For many years, we have had strong links with our local Church, St. George’s Church in Frankwell. We visit it regularly for events such as Harvest festivals, Christmas concerts and Easter celebrations.
One of our strengths as a school is the range of sports clubs we have on offer and our teams compete regularly at local and even national events. We also have a flourishing choir who regularly perform within our community at events such as….
Our pupils have opportunities every year to visit to places within their local area, helping them to understand how their local area fits into their lives and how it can be shaped in different ways. These opportunities include visits to places such as The Quarry, The River Severn, Shrewsbury Town centre, Wroxeter Roman City, Cardingmill Valley, The Discovery Centre, Ironbridge Tile Museum and The Black Country Living Museum, where we are able to enrich our learning with first hand experiences outside the classroom.
We are part of the Safer Schools Initiative and offer our pupils Bike It and Road Safety sessions, working with external agencies to provide pupils with the necessary safety skills.
Parents and carers are invited into school to watch a termly class assembly; this is to share work and learning that pupils have been involved in. We welcome events that bring our community together, and are very fortunate to have the support from our parents and wider community.
