Message from Mrs Lee

Dear Parents/Carers,
Merry Christmas to you all!
The final day of the autumn term has arrived, and I cannot believe how quickly it has arrived. The term has been action-packed with fantastic learning experiences and enjoyment along the way.
I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere thanks to our whole community. I am grateful to work with a team of excellent and dedicated staff who show care for our pupils and our school community. I am equally thankful to you all as parents and carers in working with us and positively supporting the school.
I hope you have a restful Christmas and enjoy yourselves.
Thank you and a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Warm wishes
Mrs Lee

Choir at the Bricklayer’s Arms

Choir had a wonderful time at the pub on Tuesday evening!

We joined the local ukulele group for a community sing-a-long. We sang all our Christmas favourites with a fantastic backing group of ukueles.

Light Investigation – Willstone

Willstone tested various objects to see how good they were at reflecting light. They found out that the shiny objects were better at reflecting light. First, they played a game to see if they could direct the torchlight around the classroom with a mirror.

Design and Technology in Clee

This week we have started our design and technology unit on levers and linkages.

We are designing a Christmas card that uses levers and linkages. So far, we have explored different designs and levers. We have also had a go at making different levers and linkages to explore what would work best with our designs.

Creating Creatures in Llanymynech

This week, we created our own animal for our non- chronological reports. We used both real and mythical creatures to inspire our ideas and then planned our report using the features we found in our example texts. We came up with some fantastic ideas. Here are some examples:

Stiperstones in the Year 5 Christmas Concert

On Thursday night, members of Stiperstones re-assembled with the rest of Year 5 long after the normal end of the school day, to perform in the Year 5 Christmas Concert at St George’s Church. There was a wide variety of musical talent on show, from playing a carol on ukeleles and singing an unusual rap-style Christmas carol, to a very active version of ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’, which Mrs Partridge particularly loved!

The class had been rehearsing the poem ‘The Night Before Christmas’, speaking in small groups and all together, and despite facing a microphone for the first time, worked together very successfully to perform it. It was lovely to have such an appreciative audience of families and friends. Special thanks must go to Mrs Sequeira for all the hard work that she has put in to teach us all the music and to accompany and encourage us during the event.

Cheers and a Merry Christmas from Wenlock!

Merry Christmas from Wenlock! At the beginning of the term we decided that if all children in Wenlock could reach 150 merits then we would have a cake and squash treat at the end of term. Well we actually all had reached over 200 merits so we definitely deserved a treat! Well done Wenlock and cheers!

Circle time in Lawley

This afternoon in Lawley class we spent some time doing circle time about kindness and how being kind to one person can really affect them positively. We discussed what unkind and kind behaviour was and then Lawley decided on one act of kindness they would do next week. So many of the children were keen to show their nice manners, to say something nice to someone and to just simply brighten their day. Lawley explained that following the St George’s way of being respectful, responsible and hard working also incorporated kindness. Munch, our worry monster whose job in Lawley is to eat up any worries the children have, also joined in.  What an amazing end to a fabulous week Lawley class.

P.E in Ercall Class

This week we continued our dance sessions. The children were tasked to create a sequence of movements to fit the mission impossible theme tune. They made super spies and created a variety of movements, involving different speeds and levels. Brilliant work Ercall Class!

HAF Winter Holiday Fun and Food in Shropshire

Wrekin Class

As the end of term fast approaches, Wrekin Class have been extremely busy in all areas of the curriculum. Everyone has shown tremendous resilience, particularly during our fractions lessons recently. The children also worked hard to learn all their songs, lines and side-splitting jokes for the Christmas Carol Concert.

Across this half-term, the children have been learning all about e-safety, with a focus on anti-bullying. We have been learning how to be an ‘Upstander’ or a ‘Bystander’ and how to help anyone they think may be a victim of bullying. They have also been learning who they can report bullying to, whether they are experiencing it themselves, or see it happening to others.

Shadow Experiment in Haughmond

This half term, our Science focus has been light. Today, the children conducted an experiment where they looked at the size of shadows in relation to the distance of the object casting the shadow from the light source. They found out that the further away the object was placed from the light source (and the closer the object was to the surface the shadow was being cast upon), the smaller the shadow. The children recorded the size of the shadows at different measurements from the light source. They recorded their results in a table and produced a line graph based on the results. Super work, Haughmond!

Year 3/4 Cricket festival

On Thursday, pupils form Year 3 and 4 travelled to Shrewsbury Sport Village to take part in a continuous cricket festival. All of the pupils represented St George’s with wonderful attitudes and enthusiasm. They took part in a series of practice drills before playing games to put their skills to the test. Well done to all involved!

Bright sparks in Ragleth Class

This week Ragleth Class have been learning about how different components function in a circuit. They built several circuits and used different switches to identify which switch would be the easiest or hardest to use when trying to beak a circuit. They used slide switches, paddle switches and push button switches to test our their predictions. Their results showed that a push button switch broke the circuit the easiest and suggested this should be used in devices such as torches, car ignitions and emergency alarms.

Learning timestables in Corndon

This week children have worked really hard at learning their 12 timestables. Children can also recall division facts for multiplications they know.

RE and PSHE story link in Caradoc.

Over the last few weeks in RE lessons, pupils in Caradoc have been learning about the significance of Mary being chosen to be the mother of Jesus in the Christian Christmas Story. In PSHE, the pupils have been learning about the varying reasons why people may need to flee their homes and the challenges that this brings; they have been discussing refugees and homeless people in both our wider world and local community.

Caradoc pupils enjoyed sharing the story ‘Refuge’ by Anne both which brings together their learning in RE and PSHE: it is a retelling of the Christian Christmas story, from the perspective of the donkey, focusing on Mary, Joseph and Jesus as refugees on the run from Herod, reliant on the kindness of strangers. This book was written to raise money for children fleeing from war today.
