ClassDojo Information

Dear parents,
For those that are new to St. George’s, you may not yet be aware of our positive behaviour system which includes a free app called ClassDojo. When children are rewarded merits in class, assemblies or around the school for the good work and positive behaviours that they are showing, your child’s class teacher will add this merit onto ClassDojo.
The children enjoy using the app as it gives them a “dojo monster” that they can change when they log in at home. It’s also a great way for you to engage with your child’s rewards in school as you can log in and see how many merits they have been awarded and why they have received them.
If your child has not got a login for Classdojo yet, please approach your class teacher. ClassDojo may try and get you to pay for the app – you do not need to do this as you can access your child’s merits for free.
New for this year that all parents need to know:
Once the children have received a certain number of merits, they can earn additional rewards such as bringing in a small teddy for their desk or choosing a partner to sit with. I have attached the reward poster so that you can see which rewards your child has earnt or are close to earning. At 110 points, your child’s class will have chosen their own reward, so you may have to ask your child about this.
I hope this has been helpful and informative.
Many thanks,
Mrs. A Jones

Message from Mrs Lee

Dear Parents and Carers,
A wonderful week at school settling back in and showing our school values at all times. We have been very impressed with our Year 3 children and how they have transitioned to St. George’s. All year groups have shown fantastic attitudes towards learning and behaviour.
Thank you to our parents who attended the meeting this week to find out about the Shropshire Smartphone Free movement. This was a productive meeting with lots of open conversations about concerns and solutions. Please see the information letter if you would like to find out more.
We are pleased to start hosting events in our Longmynd community room. This is an opportunity to help support families across both Woodfield Infant School and St. George’s Junior School. If you have any suggestions or areas of need to propose, please make contact with our school office.
Well, done to Ettie and Liberty for your winning entry to ‘Mini Masterpieces’. We are very proud of you both – well done and thank you for representing St. George’s though your artistic talents.
Have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards,
Mrs K Lee

Message from Mrs Lee

Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope everyone is settled back into routines following the summer break.
We have been very impressed with how the pupils have returned and particularly would like to mention our new Year 3 cohort. They are adapting well and learning and following expectations. This is a great start to build upon.
It has been lovely to welcome parents and carers back too, and we hope our new parents have felt welcome to our school.
Special mentions
Lucas Clarke
Tom Smithson
Seth Richardson
For being exceptional role models. We have been lucky to have new play sheds and equipment over the summer. Our first day discussed expectations in how to care for the equipment. These three pupils took it upon themselves to monitor this, help pupils and ensure the equipment was all sorted and packed away.
Mylo White
Cody Millar
Marcus Richardson
For helping to keep our school environment tidy by litter picking.
Smartphone Free Shropshire
A reminder there is a meeting being held Monday 16th at St. George’s Junior School. This is an opportunity for parents to find out more about ‘feature phones’ and the Smartphone free movement.
A huge congratulations to Tess Burgess, a parent of our school who interviewed for both BBC radio and Midlands today news. It was great to see both our parents and pupils feature in this, coming together as a community to find solutions.
A link below enables parents to sign a pact to delay use of smartphones:
Uniform
A polite reminder that school uniform and PE kit should be worn on appropriate days. The expectation is that the correct uniform is worn for PE. No football shirts or non-uniform coloured items are to be worn (exceptions must be discussed with class teacher).
Jewellery in the form of bracelets and necklaces are not permitted to be worn in school, unless there is a specific reason. This must be discussed with school. Small stud earrings only, which must be taken out or covered up for PE sessions.
Please work with school in setting and adhering to these expectations. If you would like support or help with school uniform, then please make contact with our school office and they will be happy to help.
Clubs
We are really fortunate at St. George’s in that we can offer a wide range of extra-curricular clubs. This is based upon pupil requests and expressions of interest. These clubs can only run if we have sufficient numbers. Currently, we have low uptake for tennis club and early morning circuits. If we do not reach numbers by the end of this week, the clubs will have to be cancelled, which we would like to avoid because we want to offer enrichment experiences. Please make contact with office if you would like to sign up for these clubs.
A big thank you to our PTFA who have sent out their newsletter – lots of work and effort as always to bring our school community together.
I really hope the transition back to school has been positive. As always, should you have any questions or require any support, please make contact with school.
Take care,
Mrs K Lee

PTFA- Winter Coat Share

Our Winter Coat/Shoe Share Rail will be available next to the walkway between the schools (in front of the Nursery) *from 8.30* (during drop off) on Thursdays from this week.

Bring your children’s good condition, outgrown coats and shoes and see if you can swap for something bigger. If you don’t have anything to bring don’t worry – please feel free to just come along and browse – the aim is to share and re-wear!♻️🌏

Safer Schools

Please see below from Shropshire Council Crime Prevention Officer:

In 2007, both St George’s Junior School and Woodfield Infant School were accredited ‘Safer Schools’.  This is a risk management approach to school security, created by West Mercia Police and supported by Shropshire Council. During the recent summer term, I attended a joint annual Safer School meeting of the schools, involving staff and governors. We reviewed security/safety, analysed parent/carer and pupil surveys, considered any school issues and planned for the future. It was reassuring to hear that there had been no recorded issues on the school site in past year – excellent news.

It was a productive meeting and a good reflection of the hard work of both schools in maintaining the Safer School accreditation. In recognition of the responsible approach to security, safety and safeguarding, both schools were presented with an updated Safer School certificate – Congratulations!

Message from the PTFA

It has been a packed school year for our PTFA and the events and activities across both schools have raised a fantastic £19,000 of much needed funds to benefit both schools.

From our Autumn Term uniform sales and Meet the Parents event, through to the bounce-tastic Inflata-noon event in June (with a couple of raffles, a disco, quiz and treat sales in between) our committee and PTFA volunteers have been hard at work to provide events for our community and raise funds for resources and experiences for our school children. For more information on where the funds are being spent, look out for the PTFA end of term newsletter which will be communicated end of this week.

We’ve raised more this year than any academic year previously.  And so we’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped facilitate an epic year of fundraising and also to the pupils, parents/carers and families who support our events and bring the fun!

We are always grateful for support on events. If you are interested in helping next year drop us an email at yourptfa@gmail.com and we can add you to our bank of volunteers.

Finally, we wish you all a wonderful summer break! Follow us on Facebook for PTFA news over the summer http://www.facebook.com/groups/wsgptfacommunity

Message from Mrs Lee

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have completed academic year 2023 2024 and what a great year it has been. Lots of positives, some challenges but the highlights have been our amazing pupils and school team.

As I reflect upon the last year, we have seen in increase in parental participation within our school and positive working relationships, working together to improve all round outcomes for pupils. Heading into the next academic year, we aim to continue this, and to build it upon it further.

Highlights from this week….

A huge thank you to the parents who came in and supported the Career afternoon for Year 6. This was fantastic and enjoyed by everyone. We really appreciate the time taken to come and help inspire our young people of the future.

Year 6 leavers assemblies and the Year 6 play – great performances and showing the wonderful young people that the pupils have become and how they are set for their next adventure. Thank you to parents and carers for supporting this.

A big thank you to our PTFA who gave up their time to help support a fun inflatable afternoon and an ice cream for Year 6. The weather held out and this was enjoyed by everyone.

Moving on…

We wish our Year 6 pupils all the very best with their transition to secondary school. We know they will continue to grow and be successful as they enter Year 7 and beyond.

Miss Bliss will be leaving us to take up an opportunity at a different school. We have loved having ‘bubbly and friendly’ Miss Bliss as part of our team and wish her the very best of luck in her future.

Mrs Partridge completes her time with us having covered for maternity leave. In the time she has been with us, she has been incredibly hard-working and always striving for the best for the pupils and the team. We wish Mrs partridge the very best of luck in her next role.

We wish Miss Taylor lots of luck as she has decided to have a break from teaching. We hope she stays in education as she is a fabulous teacher!

Mrs Jones and Miss Rowlands, who have been a big part of our school community for some time are both moving on. They will be missed by everyone; their support and work in school has been invaluable to staff and pupils.

Ms Martin has decided that she would like to extend her expertise and train to be a teacher, so has made the decision to start this journey. We thank Ms Martin for her contributions to our school and wish her the very best of luck in her future as a teacher.

Mrs Jones has successfully completed her training, which she has worked hard and very diligently on and following this, will take some time to reflect. We thank Mrs Jones for calmness and patience and the work she has completed at our school and wish her luck with her next adventure.

All our staff are highly valued and have brought so much to our school. As sad as we are to say goodbye, we know they will go on to be an asset in education to more pupils beyond St. George’s.

We welcome new members to our team; Miss Quigg, Miss Ball, Mr Jones (teachers) and Mrs Bhamji, Miss Slater, Mrs Taplin and Mrs Bladen.

Final round up

This leaves me to say a big thank you the whole of our school community. I lead this school with care and drive in wanting the best for all our pupils, and from being appointed as headteacher earlier this year, it has been my aim, collectively with Mrs Preece, and all staff across both schools to extend pupil opportunities and community engagement. It is with the support and appreciation from a very dedicated staff team and supportive parents that promotes improvements and leads to success. I am very thankful for this and grateful.

I hope you all have a lovely summer and break and look forward to welcoming you back in September for academic year 2024/2025.

Kind regards,

Mrs K Lee

Message from Mrs Lee

Dear Parents/Carers,
We are near to the end of term…
A wonderful week of parent lunches, class assemblies, meeting the new teacher and our amazing parents who have been in offering career workshops to our pupils. Pupils, and staff were fascinated to learn about different job roles. This is an excellent enrichment for pupils – thank you to our parents for supporting this.
Well done to our Year 6 pupils who gave numerous fantastic performances of ‘Shakespeare Rocks’. This was a great team effort and enjoyed by all.
Reading corner competition
Each class had a competition to create an inspiring reading corner. Mrs Whelan, our CEO was impressed by all of them and found it hard to pick. Our winning classes are:
  • Stiperstones
  • Wrekin
  • Ercall and Corndon (joint reading area)
Each class has a cash prize to purchase some books for the library areas.
Chillzone
Some excellent work from our Chillzone pupils.
Exciting Chillzone news!
Chillzone entered a young artists competition and our students artwork has been published.
The book is a celebration of young minds and their imaginations, showcasing the range of artistic talent in the next generation.
We have been provided with a copy of the book with our new published artists
Thank you to Mrs Penny for supporting and organising this wonderful project.
Today is ‘wear something bright’ day for Robin. I had the pleasure of meeting Robin, who is a delightful young person. Please, if you can make a donation.
Kind regards,
Mrs Lee
